Summer Disease Prevention

Flu
To prevent the spread of flu:
- If you are sick, stay away from other people
- Cover mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, then throw away the tissue
- Wash hands often, for at least 20 seconds each time
- If you are at risk for flu (senior-citizens, small children, or people prone to illness), consider getting a flu shot this fall.
West Nile
To prevent West Nile Virus:
- Wear long sleeves and long pants and socks during mosquito hours from dusk to dawn.
- Use mosquito repellants, such as DEET (follow instructions on the container – 10% DEET for children under 12; up to 35% for all others.
- Keep mosquitoes from spreading by eliminating standing water such as might be in barrels, old tires, etc.
